SAP Joule for Developers: The Ultimate Guide (2026)
SAP Joule for Developers brings AI-powered assistance into SAP development, helping developers write code, build applications, automate workflows, and streamline everyday development tasks.
But what exactly can SAP Joule do for developers, and how does it fit into SAP Build, ABAP development, and the broader SAP ecosystem?
In this guide, we’ll explore SAP Joule’s capabilities for developers, practical use cases, supported development tools, and how to get started.
Today: Build Every Layer by Hand
Traditionally, a simple business app in the SAP world means a long list of manual work before anyone sees a screen:
Every layer needs its own skills, its own files and its own time. By the time a stakeholder sees something working, a lot of effort has already gone in.
Tomorrow: Describe It, Then Review It
SAP Joule in SAP Build Code changes the starting point. You describe the application in natural language, and the tooling generates the first working version for you:
Requirement → Joule → Project Accelerator → Working App
Our hands-on exercise starts with a simple request, something like:
From that description, the following happens:
The developer stays in control. AI accelerates the first mile, and the human decides what is good enough to keep, refine or extend.
What You Build in This Exercise
The goal is not a complex enterprise solution. It is to understand, through a simple example, how AI-assisted development really works. The finished Customer Management app is made of three generated layers.
CAP data model
A Customers entity built on the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model, with fields like customer number, name, email, phone, city, country and status.
Service and sample data
An application service that exposes the data, plus realistic sample records so the app is useful from the first run.
SAP Fiori elements UI
A List Report with search and filters, and an Object Page for viewing, creating, editing and deleting customers.

Generating Application using Joule.
Once you’re inside the project, you will see project created with empty data models, services and UI. We will be using AI to add data models, services and UI.
Step 1: Click on the Joule icon on the left.
Step 2: Type “/” in chat and look for available commands.
Then choose /Fiori-gen-spec-app. If Joule is throwing an error like “Joule is not enabled for you” follow these steps in SAP Community.
Step 3: Next, Copy and Paste the prompt given below to the command box along with /Fiori-gen-spec-app as shown in image and press the send button.
Prompt:
“Create a customer management application using CAP and SAP Fiori elements.
Create a customer’s entity with customerNumber, name, email, phone, city, country, and status. Generate realistic sample data.
Create one List Report application with an Object Page. Users must be able to search, filter, create, view, edit, and delete customers.
Step 4: Then click on Launch SAP Fiori Tools – Project Accelerator.
Step 5: It will open the Project Accelerator. Click Generate. It will use AI capabilities to generate the app based on the description we have provided.
Step 6: Once that process is complete close Page Map tab. And go to Storyboard.
You will see the Data Models, Services, and the UI created with AI.
Run the Application.
Step 1: The next step it Run and test the application. Click the Explorer icon on the left to see the project.
Step 2: Next, expand the “app” folder.
Step 3: Right click on Customermanagement and choose Preview Application.

Step 5: It will launch the application in a new tab on the same browser. A list of customers with sample data will be shown.
Next, let’s test the create function in the app, click on “Create” button.
Step 6: Enter customer details of your choice and click on Create.
Step 7: Go back to home page. It will show the newly created customer in the list.
Conclusion
Congrats! In this hands-on exercise, we started with a natural-language requirement and used SAP Joule in SAP Build Code to initiate the creation of a working Customer Management application.
With a single AI prompt in Joule, we described the required customer data, application pages, sample data, and functions for searching, filtering, viewing, creating, editing, and deleting customer records.
Joule passed these requirements to SAP Fiori Tools Project Accelerator, which generated the CAP data model, application service, sample data, and SAP Fiori elements user interface. We then previewed the generated application and tested its customer management functions.
The key takeaway is not only the completed application, but also the AI-assisted development approach:
Natural-language requirement → Joule → Project Accelerator → Generated application → Review → Preview and test
This exercise demonstrates how Joule can help developers move quickly from a business requirement to a working application while keeping them in control of reviewing, refining, and extending the generated result.
